29 1400UT July 09 St Vincent 663 miles
Yesterday turned out to be very much a game of 2 halves. Good first, steady
motoring in the second. Despite this we still managed 136 miles through the
water and are still above our 5.5 knot ideal average speed.
The night was particularly dark and the total cloud cover, and occasional
shower, suggested some form of frontal system. However it was not a 'normal'
UK type because we now have very little wind and are following a hole in the
weather for the next few hours. We are still managing to squeeze more than 5
knots out of Jemima so she is doing well.
Our catering continues to develop well. Last nights chilli (not bad even
though I say it myself) was then followed by a creative use of the leftovers
for lunch. Andy is "thinking of something creative" for the other half of
the mince which should be good and, to maintain our bodies at the peak of
their physical condition (!), we are eating fruit regularly as well. The
major culinary success however is the production of ice cubes! It will be
gin and tonics all round for sundowners tonight.
On the animal spotting front we have had another first. Green turtles were
spotted by another boat to the west of the Azores. Well we can't do green,
but we saw a brown one floating very casually about 2 metres from the boat.
He looked very chilled and totally untroubled by our close proximity. No
more whales today, so far, but I am planning a bit of fishing later so you
never know.
