Monday 1500UT Gibraltar 225nm
Very windy - up to 30 knots and heavy seas again - it seems the Atlantic
wants to play to the bitter end! Has been uncomfortable night and day again
and not expecting winds to ease before midnight. By then we should be due
south of Cape St Vincent by about 40 miles and maybe the seas will start to
ease also, although we will also be coming onto the continental shelf
around the same time. We passed over Gettyberg Seamount at around 0400,
where depths changed from 3000m to just 50m over a very short distance.
Needless to say, the seas were not pleasant there either.
Porridge today and supper will be a challenge. We hope to make the
entrance to the Straits of Gibraltar during the early hours of Wednesday and
this is where our "Atlantic Crossing" is deemed by us to end.
At least is has been sunny today.
After seeing around 8 ships within a couple of hours yesterday afternoon, we
have sighted none today but the VHF has come alive with near constant
chatter from Morocco radio and Spanish station from either Tarifa or Cadiz.
I am feeling nearly home hearing the Spanish language again.
