Title: >11,000mls

We are now in Blantyre - treating ourselves to a couple of days in a
lovely hotel!
On Tuesday before we left Livingstonia we were chatting with Robertson and
Wongani about many things - one being the possibility of using Manchewee
Falls to generate electricity for the plateau. We then went to visit the
Falls and Stephen is very excited by the idea of being able to utilise
them to provide power and will follow this up when we get home.
We then visited Chief Allen at Ballykajoni. This is a very exciting and
ambitious project which is progressing well. It is amazing to see what
has been done there and we couldn't but catch the vision for the orphan
care centre. We took lots of photos which we will share when we return.
As I said last time we did not go down the Gorodi road but left by the
dirt road to Rhumpi! This was a beautiful drive through the mountains but
was a bit too hazy to take good photos.
The Italians travelled with us and were very impressed with Livingstonia.
Giovani is a dentist and he ended up doing cases on the Monday afternoon!!
Ironic really! However he was really pleased to do it.
The next few days we stayed at the Lake shore - Nhkata Bay and Senga Bay -
both pretty places but lots of ants and mosquitos(?) to annoy us - me in
particular!
yesterday the Italians went to Zambia to continue their route to Cape Town
and we went to Blantyre. The roads in Malawi have been the best to date
but the real hazard is cyclists. One lad just crossed our path without
any warning and Stephen had to slam on the brakes just missing him by
inches. Was bit scarey but we were thankful we didn't hit him. Goats are
the other main hazard - hard to predict which way they will run! As some
of you know anything and everything is carried on the back of a bicycle -
another incident was when a lad transporting a long log - easily twice the
length of the bike! almost turned it into our path - he just couldn't
control it!
We crossed the 11000mls near Bakalat north of Blantyre.
One of the luxuries here is a hot shower - we really appreciate that! We
have also been able to get laundry done - very necessary!
Our next stop is Kedesh, Beira in Mozambique.
Our plan has changed somewhat - we will now miss out Zimbabwe and travel
the coast of Mozambique to Maputo and on into S.Africa. We will travel
across country to Cape Town and leave Botswana and Namibia to another
time!
If it works out we would love to meet up with the Italians in Cape Town
and bid them farewell!
That's it for now - thank you again for all your support and continued
prayers. Psalm 121 has meant a lot to us this week after the Gorodi road
experience.
Love
S&H
