ken-at last we are heading towards Antigua its been
very frustrating we nearly ended up in the cape verdes. we had a pod of dolphins
yesterday and there must have been 60-70 of them they were everywhere you looked
it was amazing. hope all well at home and its not too cold thinking about you
all some more than others! SMALYXX
Morning - well, what a day yesterday!! Started with
a 45degree freshwater shower, then we had loads of dolphins 20-30 on the bow so
went to film them and the weather was quite rough so was strapped onto the deck
- when the boat nose dived a few times and I got absolutely soaked from
head to foot! It was very funny, but had to have another shower and change
my clothes. Then early evening we had an amazing amount of dolphins - must have
been about 60 or 70 at least - where ever you looked they were jumping out of
the water. When I went up to the bow there was no wind and suddenly the
wind got up and I got splashed again - no one else did - just me! So, I stood
back a little and decided not to be quite in the heart of the action!
Then, after a lovely lentil stew for dinner, I was minding my own business
reading a book on heavy weather sailing on the sofa, when Captain Ian was
clearing up after dinner. He couldn't find a plastic container to put my
delicious stew in, so I went to help him. I opened the cupboard under the sink
to be attacked by the pressure cooker - it was a bit of a mess and lots of other
things fell out, so I sat on the floor to do a bit of minor tidy up and be
helpful, when..........a good two bucket equivalent of water fell on my head and
I got totally bl....dy soaked AGAIN!!! I thought it was some kind of sick joke.
What had happened was that the wind had just got up and a squall was passing,
but the kitchen hatch was still open from cooking the dinner and I was directly
underneath it when a massive wave came over the boat and tonne of water came in
through the hatch and soaked........just me!! So, finished the day as I
started with a 45degree freshwater shower! At least I was a
source of amusement for everyone! I wonder what today has
install?! Just to let you all know the sun is shining and its lovely
and warm he he!! hope its not too cold there?! We've got a good wind
though - bout 22 knots and we are doing 6 - 7 knots......in the right direction
across the Atlantic over a big Atlantic swell - waves on top of waves! The
wind is still on the nose, so we are still close hauled when the wind
should be behind us and be a 'trade wind' - hopefully one day soon! Bye
for now. Caroline x
