Who awakened to the sound of an alarm this morning? lots of you no doubt, how many were woken by the sound of  "Whales?" non of you probably. Ah! but we were.
A mad dash on deck from our bunks a moment couldn't be lost. "Where, Where", I shouted. cameras snapping, videos rolling, bloody brilliant. As the excitement of the moment had subsided, the cool breeze could be felt as it bit into semi naked bodies, I looked down, damn! I forgot to put my shorts on.................gotcha!!!
An encounter that can only be described as magical. Ch

Morning - I got the first sighting of the whales - I was just taking a picture of a great big black squall following us when I saw a big black back and a big fin  just surface and go under at the back of the boat. Unbelievable! We saw whales for an hour and a halfish - coming up to the back of the boat, under the water at the stern, and we could see them going under the boat, and got some great video of them coming out face first and facing us, then going under - at the back of the boat! Im sure there were quite a few passing through. It was awesome. Wore out both my camera and video camera batteries!!     Yesterday was squall galore - we could permanently see 4 around us all day - either moving in front at either side or.... straight through us. I helmed through 3 in the morning - one after the other. It was great. Got absolutely soaked and got winds up to 31.5 knots, massive amounts of rain - so much that the sea flattened. It was amazing - we'd sail over a massive wave - it was like going over a hill - to see loads more hills off to the the near distance, in black and grey mist - it was very  dramatic and bloody great fun helming through it - I loved it, being the reason I didn't blog yesterday as I was glued to the helm. The last one I helmed through - we must have gone straight through the middle of it, cos it was the most rain and the most dramatic. I also got 11.5knots speed helming, the boats record I believe so far!!  he he!! Interesting couple of days. Oh yes, and on my watch 2  nights ago, I was just listening to Pink Floyd, looking at a dramatic moon in black clouds, reflecting on a dramatic sea - when  flying fish flew on the deck right in front of me. I should of taken a piccie, but want to get him back in the sea as soon as poss so he didn't die - the others would have probably eaten him!! Had to get him back in quick! See you soon. Thanks to all my friends for your texting - am very glad to hear from you.  Caroline x
